That Book Reminds Me Of...

TOPIC

Reading Comprehension Strategy: Text-Self

BIG IDEA

How is my life like characters in books?

UNDERSTANDING

The student will understand that they can make a “connection” with books to their personal lives and compare their lives to characters in literature.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

3 second grade, LD students. More information is included below.

(These are “fictional” students created for the purpose of this unit).

IEP GOALS:

Each child has been identified as requiring reading comprehension skills through his/her IEP and from the general education teacher.

AOW (Archdiocese of Washington) STANDARDS:

English/Language Arts: Grade 2

• 2.2 Students read and understand grade-level-appropriate material. They use a variety of comprehension strategies, such as asking and responding to essential questions, making predictions, and comparing information from several sources to understand what they read.

• 2.3 Students read and respond to a wide variety of significant works of children’s literature. They identify and discuss the characters of stories that they read.
